There are three important things that we can help with when it comes to domains.
We can register a new Domain for you, commonly called a URL (unique resource locator) for either a .co.nz, .com or any other type of suffix you need.
We can transfer an existing domain over using a fresh UDAI code.
Or we can work on your behalf to purchase a domain off an existing owner.

Why try and do everything yourself post launch?
Most people launch with plans to keep their website current. Only to find that three years later their website is stagnant and out of date requiring a new build.

What is the cost for registering a URL?
It depends on the suffix, but for a .co.nz Gherkin Media charges $48+gst for a managed domain ($28+gst unmanaged)
Can I transfer my URL to you?
Email disruption and website downtime is the biggy here, so we normally transfer on a Friday night, but we transferred over 100 domains in 2020 alone and have the process down to a fine art.
What is a UDAI Code?
The Unique Domain Authentication Identifier (UDAI) is a case-sensitive, eight-character-long “password” which is a randomly generated unique identifier for every Internet NZ domain name (code “.nz”). The UDAI is made up of letters in both upper and lower case as well as numbers.
The UDAI is the password for the domain and can be used to transfer the ownership of the domain
If you have a .com then its a little different – but we can take you through the steps no worries.
I’ve lost my domain - can you help?
We’ve rescued hundreds of websites and therefore been involved in hundreds of issues with domains, emails, social accounts, website FTPs – you name it.
Sometimes the biggest hurdle to successful acquisition of a new clients domain or email is a person. A unresponsive or vindictive developer or host, a person looking to rip you off for leaving them, you name it we’ve come across it.

Do you use Google Workspace (GSuite) or Office 365?
We can work with either Google Workspace (previously GSuite) or Office 365 and with either option this is just purely at the request and preference of our clients. – Its not a revenue product for Gherkin Media.

My email isn’t working - can you fix it?
Yes, potentially we can help fix anything, even things that are more IT based than web based.
Best bet is simply to use the contact form on the website and we’ll get back to you within 24hours.
What content management systems do you work with?
We work with WordPress and WooCommerce – a tiny little bit of Shopify.

Whats better, Shopify or WooCommerce?
Most of our clients from Shopify come to us as Shopify is great at allowing a business owner to jump straight into a DIY eCommerce project with very little time and money, and most importantly without needing to pay a designer or developer to build the website for them.
The reasons why they inevitably end up talking to us and needing to be rescued from the Shopify platform are varied, however most often its because of theme limitation and cost.

Do you use Wix or Squarespace?
No, we don’t use DIY Builders like Wix or Squarespace. We do however offer an apple for apples rescue service 100% free.

You say you do free websites - whats the catch?
First one is for our rescue clients that we get out of a pickle, most commonly as they have become stuck with a company they are unhappy with.
Second type of free website we offer is where a client has got stuck on a DIY builder that is unable to deliver 100% of the project.
Finally we support fledgling businesses and those potentially looking to leave their J.O.B by offering (on referral) a free website if its the companies first website.
All three of these offerings have to make it through our Gherkin Media job scorecare threasholds and normally come in the form of referral from a professional partner, however if you have any questions about how to take us up on this please feel free to ask.
So whats the catch – we ask that you host with us seeing that we did the website for free.

What is a care plan and why do I need one?
Additionally our website care plans include preventative care, so we do our best to prevent anything from happening. We can’t make guarantees that your website will not be hacked, but we will do everything within our power to prevent it, as well as assist in the restoration and cleanup of the website with one of our backups.
How much is a basic website?
A basic website that doesn’t come through our rescue channel can start from as little as:

Can I build my own website on your platform?
Sure – its not our core offering, but we can easily set you up with a blank canvas and a point in the right direction.
Following that we can support you through the process of completing the website and then hold your hand through the sometimes technical post launch checklist and sending the website live phases too.

What happens if I want to move away from Gherkin Media?
This is the beauty of our setup here at Gherkin Media. We are never permanently tethered to any of our clients and we don’t build on platforms that lock our clients into us.
So if the grass is greener there are no contracts to break, no tears to cry and no hurdles to jump in order to move away.
– by the way this never happens……we’re pretty good at what we do.
